OK: so I have to go from Amsterdam on the 14th of October to Cinque Terre (Italy) to meet my mum on the 19th of October.
I have a few options for where to fly into.
3) Milan (I'm staying a few nights sight seeing there earlier in my trip)
My question is this: where should I fly into, and where should I go from there? I don't particularly have to stay in those cities, if you know of any awesome places close by, I'd love to hear about them. I'll have 5 nights to spend between Amsterdam and meeting my mum.
Let me know your thoughts!
Pisa would be the logical choice, you've already done your sightseeing in Milan. Pisa is only about 20 minutes away by train to the Cinque Terre region and those routes are more frequent and cheaper compared to Milan-Genoa (You'd then have to take a connection to the Genoa-La Spezia/Florence line). If you fly into Pisa be aware that it's a small city and could be explored in a few hours. Spend a few days in Florence which is 30 min away from Pisa and a day of sightseeing in Siena which is south of Florence. You'll take a ton of pictures in these five days . There's lots of Tuscan countryside to be seen! If you're more into long sandy beaches then Nice and the surrounding area may be for you. My only problem with this choice is that the train ride is slow and hassling from Nice into Italy, not to mention the fact that if you were to stay in Italy in the areas I mentioned above, everything would be so compact. When I travel, I try to cut out as much distance as possible.
pisa does not need an overnight stay, its def a day trip kinda place!
