I am currently in Paraguay and I am here for the next three months teaching Enlgish. Around January time I will be in Cuzco, Peru then I need to get down to Santiago, Chile to get my flight out. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get down there i.e most interesting, cheap etc etc.
I think your only choices are a long, less expensive bus ride or a short, more expensive flight. There are cruises that do Lima to Santiago that you could look at, but they are probably pretty expensive.
If you have the time, I would go from Cusco to Lake Titicaca and Isla del Sol for a couple of days. Then head down into Chile and make a few stops along the way. I enjoyed Arica - nice, laid back beach town.
I suggest you to fly there anyway it's a long way by bus!
You can che flight lan chile or lan peru it's the same company they just make a different brand in peru.
Right now the prices are around 500 USD from lima to santiago anyway you can check this http://www7.lan.com/index.html
If your budget can't afford it you can go by bus but it will take at least a couple of day ... and maybe choose a first class bus anyway you must be really strong!
