I think Norway is meeting the US in female soccer today already actually!

Countries that win only a few medals resort to per capita comparison. The question was: "Which country will top the Olympics 2008 medal tally?" It will between the US and China. I will go down to one of our sport books and bet on the US winning the most medals.

I believe it's going to be an uphill task for Team USA. Coming in 2nd overall is a most probable outcome because the Chinese are too determined at securing the throne.

Anyway, has anyone heard of the latest prediction that the UK is gunning for 4th/5th placing?

Did you know for this year's Olympics, Team USA has about 40 athletes that were naturalised as US citizens not more than a couple of years ago? They're doing all they can to be on the top.

The 4th placing target is for the London 2012. In Beijing 2008, they're hoping for 8th.

The projection that puts GB in 4th place in Beijing is Luciano Barra's medal projection. Team GB's own target is 8th. Quite a few commentators think that 8th is a bit underambitious, particularly given the medals GB are expected to win in cycling, but we do like to underacheive.

Is Mark Cavendish performing on the Olympics? That guy rules, fastest in the world in the sprint!

Thanks Magykal1 for providing the source! I was sure I heard the 4th placing prediction somewhere in the news!

Michael - yes, he is, but only on the track (the Madison, and, potentially as our second rider in the pursuit). The road course is too difficult for him to make it worth the effort.

Thanks Michael:)

Abhinav Bindra finally brought glory for us by winning the Gold medal. It was a tough competition with the winner decided by the last shot. :)
