Hey all, just joined up to get some further insight into what its like travelling around. It's my first time away from home and i'm going to the states (east coast) with a mate of mine. I will be graduating at the end of this semester so i'll be celebrating this by visiting the states! I will be going to NY for NYE and then going around. I just have to figure out how good either Greyhound or Amtrak is! My friend will not be staying as long as I will so I'll be travelling alone for the latter part of the adventure!

I have taken long distance buses in Oz (Cairns to Perth), and must warn you that Greyhound is not near as pleasant in the USA as it is in Australia. Amtrak would be much better, but much depends on exactly where you're headed. Amtrak services in the NE corridor (Boston-Washington) is quite good and punctual, and can be very very poor in the rest of our country. I would say air travel + Amtrak would be a good choice. thanx daawgon! i'm looking forward to my trip, booking tickets this week, then gotta fill in the gaps lol
