Hi, I am planning on studying abroad in Prague in the fall of this year but plan on travelling for a month before. I applied for a student visa since I will be in the Schengen zone for longer than 90 days, however the wonderful Czech Immigration police haven't approved my app yet and they said they won't until Aug 19th. However, I am scheduled to fly to Europe on August 9th for traveling. I can get my passport back from the consulate and resend it to them to have my visa issued. Is this a bad idea to do while abroad even if I stay in one country while the passport is away?!? Also, will there be issues when I leave the country?? Will they know that I entered without a visa but left with one??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I need advice soon!!!
Which citizenship do you hold?
As a foreigner is illegal to be without your passport or some sort of other document in most European countries.
Where do you intend to travel to?
The first problem is (as I already mentioned) that it will be illegal for you to be without your passport in most countries. From this point of view about the only country you could travel in would be the Czech Republic, since Czech authorities got your passport and thus you can travel inside the Czech Republic with a copy of the passport and a reciept from the Czech authorities.
The problem however with flying to Europe without your student visa is that normally you need to have your student visa before you enter the Schengen zone. If you send your passport back they will see that you are already in Europe (thanks to the entry stamp). Depending upon the exact laws the Czech got (I don't know them since I don't read Czech) your student visa could be denied upon these grounds.
Have you tried to contact the Czech authorities and explained the problem? Did they say it would be possible to send your passport in and get the student visa despite the fact that you are already in Europe?
Can't you change your flights at all?
