Quoting Swept Away
because I believe what our national hero (Rizal) once said... 'Ang di magmahal sa sariling wika ay daig pa ang mabahong isda' ('One who does not love his language is worse that a smelly fish')... He may have used Spanish in his works, to convey his sentiments to a vernacular understandable by the conquering Castillans.. but he still loved his own language...
Our national hero was chosen by the AMERICANS that bought the islands from Spain. RIZAL was pro SPAIN, and he never wanted INDEPENDENCE. That is why the AMERICANS used his memory to control the people. Your national hero is a colonial minded elitist who loved everything European. He was also a native speaker of Spanish, like the children of our corrupt leaders.
I'm not anti-filipino. I am just anti "JOLOGS" a new word that ussually refers to a behavior, personality or taste of the masses. I hail from the masses and I hate the assumption that my taste is less cultured.
The JOLOGS culture leave it in MANILA.
When I was in CAMBODIA, I was feeling more proud of my country. UNTIL, I found the FILIPINO channels on TV. I was so disgusted and I thought, why should I watch Philippine TV, when I get to live in countries like Belgium or Norway.
This cultural virus is transmitted through television sets around the world.
Wow - I knew we (the AMERICANS) were powerful but memory control must have been one of those old-fashioned super-duper powers because it's not working very well at the moment... And again, interestingly, you'd prefer to say you were from S. Carolina than the Philippines. (Probably because there aren't a lot of Jologs there. In fact, most S. Carolinians have never heard of Jolina Magdangal or Judy Anne Santos or the Jolina Organization. No, I didn't just look it up, and that would be an assumption on your part if you thought I had...) When it comes to politics, one man's puppeteer is another man's puppet. You see Rizal as the puppet where pau_p1 does not.

Ah, so you don't like being equated with the Philippine's version of our "trailer trash" or the Aussie version of "Sheilas" and the male counterpart. Damn, life is tough all over. Yes, I realize there is discrimination everywhere and we are judged by our origins, but isn't that why you left? To rise above it? If I take what you have written in an earlier post as truth (Our judgement about other people may only reflect our views about ourselves.) then... BTW, I don't believe our judgement about others necessarily reflects our views about ourselves. I based my observations (opinions, assumptions) about you through your written word only. That's all I had to work with - though I am now enlightened.
