Where should I go in late September for a weekend away in Europe? I like sights over beaches and a bit of sun wouldn't go amiss!

To have a better than average chance of realistic amounts of heat/sun in late Sept, you are looking at Southern Europe (yes, elsewhere possible, especially as the climate is so variable these days, but you stand a better chance around the med).

But that gives you lots of options, and it will probably come down to where you can get the cheapest/best logistical flights to. Thus, amongst many others, i'd chuck in the following vague ideas:

Croatia is still just about in season then (Split or Dubrovnik), much of southern Italy (Roma, Napoli, Sardinia, Sicilly), Spain in all likelihood, one of (Sevilla, Granada, Valencia, Barcelona or Madrid), plus Lisboa or Oporto in Portugal or Athens or Istanbul. Though not Europe, there are increasing numbers of cheap flights which could add Fez or Marrakesh in Morroccco to your list.

Yes it's a wide/vague list and all are cities, but i figure if you are only going for 2 or 3 days, a city break makes sense. There are, of course, obviously dozens of other possibilities. That is just a quick list.

Have a look at flights (especially flight times so you don't loose a day because of awkwardly timed flights) from your local airport and that should help you narrow it down. If you then want to come back with some a few places for us to comment on, we're happy to help

Haha yeh I know it was a vague post, cheers for the reply though. Might try Nice, or Madrid...would they be cheaper than Rome or similar?

I've been in Formentera in Mid-September and weather was amazing! Perfect trip, beautiful beaches!!! You should flight to Ibiza and then take a ferry to Formentera.

Nice (and France in general) is generally more expensive than Italy or Spain. Madrid is a good choice, though I personally prefer Rome.
