Indifferent about the Beijing Olympics

Travel Forums Asia Indifferent about the Beijing Olympics

I am in Bangkok and I don't know where to watch the opening ceremony.

So I decided to tell myself that "I DON'T GIVE A damn"
am I alone with this? I may just be bitter, because the event that inspired me to move to China is also the event that kicked me out or kept me out.

Besides I never really liked sports, especially in the universities.

The world does not need more stadiums for a 7 day ego festival.
Just imagine how much energy will be spent for this event.

Okay, maybe I am just bitter.
But I would love to go to an "indifferent about the olympics party."

Most of my Chinese friends didn't care about it, until yesterday.

I'm a sucker for the Olympics. I don't ever watch sports on TV, but I'd sit through a rousing game of pick-up-sticks if it was at the Olympics. I don't know why--I guess I just like the (mostly) amateur athletes who devote 4 years to being just that teenie much faster. Plus it gets everyone talking about what brings us together, rather than what sets us apart.

Okay, I am a hypocrite. I saw some scenes in a mall and so I decided to find a bar that feature the event on TV.

I think the Olympics present a very interesting spectacle, but when the cost and general waste of resources are considered, it's just a very expensive advertising scheme for China or any other locale. I'd like to know why they picked Beijing (one of the most polluted venues ever) over many more appropriate locations. Yes, I will be watching, but only because American TV in summer is so God awful boring, I have very little choice in the matter. You'd think the Koreans could forget their petty differances for a few days!

totally agree...

spent months cleaning the air and it took them 4 minutes to make it worst.

POP STARS in LIVE EARTH, all their efforts gone to the drain. Who should give a shit about recycling and reducing carbon prints, when nations glory ego festivals that literally stub the OZONE layers.

I'M SURE MY CHINESE FRIENDS were all teary eyed, even if they never gave a damn about this event.
It was a bit cheesy. WELL I LOVE CHINA... I just wish the next host will be more eco friendly.
