I'm going to to Perth in Feb 09 now on the assumption that Perth will be very busy that time of year I'm looking at booking somewhere now. I'm planning on been in Perth for a few months.
Now which hostels should I be looking at , I don't want somewhere which is a total madhouse on the other hand I don't want somewhere which resembles a morgue. A nice happy medium would be good! Hard to please I know but anyone got any suggestions ??
Is now to early to book for Feb09?? Also what's the general rule do I initially book for a week ?? Or would 2 weeks be better. Guess what I'm asking is what is the norm!
When in Perth some years ago, I did pass a hostel which even at midnight did look a bit of a madhouse. This link might help you:
Nov-Feb is high season and obviously the best and cheapest hostels go first. If you find one you like, I would certainly book now to avoid losing it. As it is high season, if you only book a week and want a second week, you may find it full up, and most of the others full up too. I would book the lot now.
Northbidge area will be busi, there some in the city are on adelaide tce half between the casino and northbridge, away from the main entertain spots but close enough to walk, they'd give you a happy medium.
Also since it summer the one out near Scarborough Beach will also be a good choice, February is busy, but its also at the end of the peak so most should have some vacancies but tis still best to book ahead
If you want to sty in the city or nearby try Witch's Hat http://www.witchs-hat.com/index.asp. I live in Perth and find the city itself pretty boring (Subiaco is great and Freo), I would say stay in Freo or at the beach, Cotteloe or Scarborough.
Good luck whatever you'll decide
I stayed at the Emperor's Crown in Northbridge and it was really nice. It's not a party hostel but was pretty social too so seems to fit the kind of thing you are looking for. I would book well in advance as you are going in high season.
