i want to make my way down to melbourne soon to see an afl match as i understand it's an aussie tradition! i love gaelic football, i'm wondering how similar it is to australian football. i've only seen snippets on television. i'm wondering whether finals tickets will be sold out? where are the best seats at the mcg? i'm hoping i won't have to pay anything at all if i can win free tickets from http://comp.expedia.com.au - though i'm not hedging my bets on it! it's so hard to save up money here when there is a pub on every corner - i need to cut back on the after work drinks and start saving. :/
depending on how far north you are
Brisbane plays this coming weekend against Carlton at the GABBA
Sydney plays Brisbane at the SCG the following
Finals games are played based on which team is where on the ladder, there will be games in Melbourne on the first week of the finals. It'll depend on the venue as to how easy it will be to get tickets an MCG game will be easier because it has the highest seating capacity at 100,000.
If its a night game an the MCG then seats are good all round, if its a days game the best seating is in the members areas, obviously you wont get in there. so then north side of the ground is IMHO better
Seating plan for the MCG is available here, you should try for level 2 in the area between gates 3 and 5.
Seating arrangements for the MGC during finals wont be released until the week before the finals, at stage tickets will also go on sale for the first week then theres two more weeks of finals before the grand final. Again where the games will be played isnt confirmed until after the last game of the week before.
Looking at the current ladder the chances are most games will be in Melbourne, though there may be a game in Sydney or Adelaide during the finals. If most games are in Melbourne that means there will be games at Docklands(Telstra Dome) as well, there the seating capacity is 53,000 since they tend to have the roof closed most seats are good, they do advise of restricted viewing seats -- seating plan again I'd say try for the second level as that give you a wider view of the game.

for ticket sales information to games at each stadium, remember that you need to be quick as games will sell out in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the finals very quickly, the Grand Final is probably already allocated I'd suggest forget that unless your prepared to pay for package deals.
