Your trip is enough safe until Hungary, but in Bulgaria and PARTICULARLY in Romania, there are serious risks also for men (tourists).
Unfortunately, Romania is not yet well integrated in Europe, and I know that criminality in it is not little.
After integration, many European countries suffers for exported criminality from Romania.
Also Istambul is not the better sample about safety.
I can't add more....

Bye

Hi Aussiecat!

I'm sorry but I not agree with Vlaya when speaks of 100% of safety.... in Serbia or in Romania.

I think that if you go to visit the following sites probably you'll avoid problems:

We advise Australians to keep a low profile. You should exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety in Serbia because of the risk of politically-motivated violence, serious inter-ethnic violence and criminal activity....

General Advice to Australian Travellers
This Advice is current for Saturday, 06 September 2008.
This advice has been reviewed and reissued. It contains new information under Local Laws (seek professional advice, medication).
Summary
Terrorism is an on-going threat in many countries around the world. The threat in some destinations is very high. We continue to receive reports that terrorists are actively planning attacks. Australians could be caught up in attacks targeted at others. Terrorists may attack official or civilian targets depending on their particular objectives at the time. See Safety and Security: Terrorism (below) and our country specific travel advisories for details on terrorist threats to specific locations and types of venues.
Violent and petty crime occurs in many countries. You should familiarise yourself with the types of crime that may occur and locations where you may be particularly at risk.
