Neuilly sur Seine is a pretty well located area. Most of Paris proper is very safe. As there will be large crowds out, watch for pick-pockets. No need to worry about your physical safety, other than of course the usual precautions you might take when large groups of people are gathering and drinking.

As for New Year's Eve, outdoor parties take place on the Champs-Elysees, which shouldn't be far from where you are staying. Fireworks go off near the Eiffel Tower, so you could go down to Champ de Mars to watch from there. Sacre Coeur also provides excellent views of the city, and apparently is not as hectic as Champs-Elysees.

If you wanted to pay for something, you might want to look at booking a river cruise. Check out this page for more information.

I've spend New Years in Paris twice and sorry I can't give you much advice other than don't go to Champs-Élysées at New Years, because I found it too crowded, kids were throwing fireworks at you and you really have to watch your belongings . The second time I was lucky to spend New Years at a house party which generally is the best. Maybe you can make friends with some Parisians before you go ;) or check closer to the date for nice things to do.

Just thought I would reopen this thread and see if anyone had any ideas now we are closer to the time? We are still undecided aboutwhat to do in paris new years eve-and now it is me and my boyfriend-and my parents-which makes planning something we will all enjoy difficult.
Any ideas??
Thanks

Ha! We are also headed over for NYE, going tomorrow actually. We also also undecided and have found several websites saying that there are no fireworks planned for this year, but that the Xmas Markets etc should all still be running until around 12 January.

Hope you find something you enjoy, i dare-say we will scope the Champs Elysees early in the night and if its too hectic and crowded, we will head slightly further out perhaps.

Let me know if you come across anything spectacular in your research!

Happy New Year
