Melbourne Nov 08 Questions and travel buddies

Hi all.. Just joined this forum.. from the USA

I am looking for some advice.. I am planing my first trip to Melbourne VIC as a 12 month work travel visa. Now I have done a lot of research and looked at all of the companies like Bunac, interexchange, CCUSA, travelworks etc. All of them seem to have inflated pricing to make them money. Charging 600-700USD for there package which is basically a visa with some extra fluff.

I then found visa first which seems to primarily offer visa's with a few of the extras that the above offer but at a way better price. However I really want an orientation once I get there to hit the ground running and only Bunac has melbourne orientation. Visa first can only offer sydney orientation. Perhaps someone here can talk me out of that though. It might be useless to me. I already know that Ill have to find work on my own and a hostel to stay at.

So does anyone know of a visa company like visa first that primarily works out of melbourne?

I am shooting for leaving in mid November time frame. I already found a flight well priced but have not booked it. I would like to get an idea of who is going to be in Melbourne and perhaps find some travel buddies.

Seriously don't use a company, they are charging you for doing very little. As you mentioned you can find a hostel and work by yourself. What else do you need? Just open mind and you are set for a trip of a lifetime. In hostels you'll find plenty of people and get to hang aroung with travellers from all over the world. From there you can find quite often work and travel buddies too. Don't pay for nothing, rather save the money for something for yourself!

Thanks for the info. I will most likely go with just visa first as all they do is the visa for 215.00 and thats not a bad price to take care of that for me.

If I can find some people to travel with once I get there I will feel a lil better. My biggest concern is the job and your right I have only myself to rely on for that.
