UK Working Holiday Maker Visa Rules?

Travel Forums Europe UK Working Holiday Maker Visa Rules?

Hi all,

Currently my partner and I are in New Zealand and we are going to Scotland in February 2009 for 1 year. I was born in Scotland and I have a British passport so this question is not really for me but it is for my partner. She was born in New Zealand and will be applying for the Working Holiday Maker visa before we go to the UK next year. We both know most of the information relating to this visa but there is 1 question we both would like to have answered.

The question we hope someone here is able to help us with is: My girlfriend and myself are currently talking about having a baby, however, we would like to know what the rules are about being in the UK under the Working Holiday Maker visa and being able to have a baby in the UK? Are we able to do this or are we not because my partner is not a UK national?

Thanks in advance,

mrkerr7474

A few months ago, I met a married Malaysian couple at the Malaysian High Commission in London. They were here since mid-2007, also on the Working Holidaymaker scheme like me, and the wife had just given birth to a baby. They were at the High Commission to register the birth of their child with the Malaysian government. I chatted with the husband for a while and found out that the older couple sitting next to us were actually his parents who came all the way from Malaysia to see their grandchild.

I guess the couple's experience should put your mind to rest now if you're thinking about having a baby. Anyway, I don't see any reason why it should be a problem. I don't think they'd be so cruel as to not let you have a baby (what if it's not planned?) or will punish you for doing so. :)

Thanks very much for this information and what the couple has done sounds exactly what me and my girlfriend are wanting to do.

I have emailed British embassy's but have had no replys what so ever.. Would have at least thought they would have replied but thanks for the reply Hien

Next week I will be submitting my documents for Working Holiday Maker Visa.

Well, i'm prepared but just a bit tense over the initerary & statements of accounts.

I find the initerary but is a bit waste of time to explain about my stay period for 2 years? Is this important?

On my statements of accounts, i have RM 35k in my bank ending July till now, been rolling here and there + support form sponsor. Would that be enough?
Do I need a letter from the bank stating that i have sufficient amount to support my stay n the UK?

Please advice me accordingly and wish me the best.
