Help me find my way back home through Borneo

Travel Forums Asia Help me find my way back home through Borneo

I am officially sick of Bangkok. I just got from Laos for 6 days and if Udon Thani had cheap accomodations, I would have stayed there for a week.

I was planning to go to Chiang Mai, but there are no Air Asia flight that can take me to Borneo.

Why I want to go to Borneo? I want to visit Brunei and the Indonesian part. I have been to the Malaysian side, including Labuan island. I also want to go to Western Mindanao, Philippines from Sandakan.

I am cheap and proud of it. I am not dying to visit these places. But I want the stamps and I want to go home without boarding planes. I really hate what planes do to my ears after a landing. It hurts for hours!

But if its cheaper to fly, I will deal with the pain.

This is my plan, which could be impractical. I will go to Penang from BKK, by Bus its 1000 Baht. Is there anything cheaper, like a train???

Then I go to Sumatra... Unless you can tell me how to go to Borneo. Well I only want the stamp that reads, Indonesia. Hopefully, they have INK in the immigration.

I am just thinking that I could end up paying more by going home this way. Like how much is a KK to Sandakan bus ride?

I am going to Travel agencies today and get the rates.

Its cheap to fly to Manila... 1,200 baht.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO TAKE THIS ROUTE AND NOT SPEND MORE THAN 5,000 BAHT ON TRANSPORT???
BKK TO PENANG IS 1000 baht,
PENANG TO SUMATRA IS ??? how much? ferry.

From there I want to get to Brunei
and perhaps I'll fly Brunei to Zamboanga City, Philippines.

well its just a plan. I am not so sure if I want to go home. I am just tired of Thailand.

Once you are in Indonesia, you could take an overnight Pelni ferry from Java (ie. Jakarta, Semarang, Surabuya) to Pontianak, Kalimantan... then overland it to Brunei?

Jakarta, which is accesible by sea through Singapore?
I then get two Indonesian cities. But I dont want to go to Singapore.

You've done this? I am going to check Pontianak in my map later.

how about Bali to Borneo, I am asking for too much? Jakarta is fine.

PELNI FERRY, i take note of that.
Can you give me an idea how much a trip from Java to Pontianak cost?

I am now even more determined to go home.

Anyone wants to tag along! My mom is a culinary expert and I am having a feast when I get back.
But you need to know how to cook your country's main dishes. We exploit our foreign visitors too.

this is a good, I am not good in Math, but RM 110 is not going to be more than 2000 BAHT. 1RM is probably 14 pesos.
That was the rate in 2003, I hope it didnt go higher. It used to be 10 pesos in 1998. They really over take the Philippines in econimic growth.

How much are the accomodations in the following (DORMS and single rooms)
I just get my address by word of mouth. I don't have the info yet.

1. Penang
2. Medan

I want to go to Phuket, but I don't want to spend more than 150 baht per night. So I guess I can't go there.

The exchange rate is about RM1 to THB10. So a one-way ticket is about THB1100.
