Vancouver hostel life

Hey - I was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend any hostel accommodation in Vancouver. I'm heading out there in October on the Bunac work visa programme and wanted to stay on a budget at a hostel for a while.
I've read a few guide books but wondered if anyone could recommend a hostel in the city from personal experience. I'm just looking for somewhere with a friendly atmosphere that's pretty safe and I would happily sacrifice a few creature comforts for a good location and the chance to socialise with a few fellow travelers.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

I stayed in a hostel in Vancouver once (well twice in the same hostel). I can't remember what it was called but I found it on www.hostelbookers.com I think. It's really easy to find cheap hostels with them. Mine was located in the Chinese district and I really loved it. Very colorful place, much better-looking than the rest of Vancouver in my opinion. It was pretty simple and white but clean and we had a fridge, a TV and a desk with a chair for about 20 dollars if I remember well. But if you just check the list of hostels available in Vancouver, you can judge by yourself and choose according to your own criteria There is also www.hostels.com
