From the Zoom Airlines website

Zoom Airlines sincerely regrets to advise its customers that it has suspended operations with effect from 19:00 hrs on Thursday 28 August 2008. Both Zoom Airlines Inc and Zoom Airlines Ltd, the Canadian and UK airlines, have started administration proceedings in their home countries.

All Zoom flights have been cancelled and aircraft grounded.

For customers who have future travel plans involving a Zoom flight for which reservations and payment have been made, you should refer to your credit or debit card company to apply for a refund.

Zoom serviced routes between Canada and the UK and some other points in Europe.

For passengers looking for alternatives, here is an interesting announcement from Virgin Atlantic:

SPECIAL FARES FOR TICKET HOLDERS STRANDED BY CANCELLATION OF ZOOM AIRLINES SERVICES
Virgin Atlantic is offering special one way fares between London Heathrow and all of our USA destinations for passengers who were booked on Zoom Airlines, which has now ceased trading.

Stranded Zoom passengers, with proof of future travel on Zoom, should contact Virgin Atlantic on 1 800 821 5438 or visit any Virgin Atlantic airport ticket desk in the UK or USA.

Please be advised Virgin Atlantic flights are currently very busy, however Virgin Atlantic representatives will do their all to assist in accommodating Zoom customers travel plans.

Further information will become available on Friday 29th August.

Er... remember all those times I recommended Zoom for people travelling to Canada...?

Never mind!

Well, it had been good advice. The fares Zoom was charging were very low. Apparently, too low.

I almost flew them back to Toronto this past weekend, but the Friday flight was sold out, so I went with British Airways instead. I guess I have no chance to try them out now.

Just heard that both Air Transat and British Airways are offering special fares for stranded Zoom passengers, which is probably a lot more useful than Virgin Atlantic's offer, given that Transat and BA both to Canada, and Virgin only flies to the USA.

What's up with Canada and low-fare airlines? First JetsGo, now Zoom... only WestJet, CanJet and Porter seem to be OK. Maybe Canadian low-fare airlines need very specific, well-flown routes...
