Hi everyone!!
I am flying out to Oz in a week but i am unsure about taking my Ipod!
Has anyone taken theirs? Is it safe to leave it on charge in the hostals? Coz i dont really want it getting stolen .Can anyone give me some advice!

Hi there,
Personally I wouldn't leave it on charge while I was out/asleep.
The vast majority of people you will meet will be perfectly honest, but it only takes one bad-apple to pinch it doesn't it?
Some hostels may have safes where you can leave it, but I would charge it while I was sat near it if I was you, or if you're sharing with a few people you know and trust.
Also, be careful about damaging it - buy a decent case.

I would take it- It will be well worth any worries you may have about losing it.

DO NOT leave it at home. Take it with you as it's a godsend. Try living without music.... impossible. I've just spent the last 8 months around north and central america and i still have it...... plus, altoug hit sounds crap, poeple love it and get the right lead to plug into other stereos for the public!

have fun mate!

not wanting to put u off taking it, cos it would be good to have, but i bought one whilst in america, then only to have it stolen from my hostel in LA, so am now music-less! :(

Hey morningmat,

Just make sure your insurance covers items worth upto whatever it is your iPod is worth. A lot of cheaper insurances only cover individual items worth up to $250 or so. I think you should take it though - just be careful and don't let it leave your side :)

Cheers, Peter

p.s. stevie; "it only takes one bad-apple" (to steal the good apple.. I guess ) - nice pun!

Definitely take it. Like most things you are damned if you do, damned if you don't. The positives far outweigh the negatives and having some familiar music can perk you up in those testy situations when travelling.
I charged and slept with my MD player in over 30 odd Hostels and never had a problem. I am a techno man and had so many electronics with me. Thankfully never had anything stolen and always erred on the side of caution. All about minimisation. Don't advertise it and flash it around and less likely to be stolen.
Just TAKE it!

Can't wait till my next trip when I face this 'problem' with my brand new ipod (received today...). In my case, it's definitely going :) Off to play with it some more right now!!!

i swear i was just gonna bring up the same question too wow. but this backs up my view that if your not stupid about it you can bring it along fine, i think it will add to the trip more then take away and dear god some long trips without music would kill me haha.
