Work to Travel the rest of the year!..

Travel Forums General Talk Work to Travel the rest of the year!..

I've met someone while travelling who actually works in his home country in europe for a couple of months, then gains enough money to go to asia the rest of the year. He chooses to go back to europe after the winter.

That way he has nice weather, a more exciting life, low costs for living and not the stress we got in our western countries.

He has no kids or any real responsabilities back home.

His boss is okay with that so he can always work when he goes back to his homecountry.

I don't know how he arranges the Visa althought, cause I guess you normally have to go back to your country to gain a new visa.

That guy kind of inspired me to maybe do the same one day.

Working a couple of months to get enough money to travel the rest of the year.

I could do interims. That way I can start and quit my job whenever I want to.

I'm starting a long study period of a couple of years but if I fail that I'd really consider travelling that way.

Does anyone here leads this way of life or knows someone who does?

I would like to get some advices and tips about that.

Hi Darq,

He's a lucky guy that he can return to the same job each time - a rare situation :)

If I could do that, I would love it. It's the ideal situation for a lot of people.

If you can work out a way to do the same, go for it! I think it would be a great way to live.

What do you currently work at? Freelancing is really a great way to go I think if you are looking to live this way and something I'm slowly working towards, but it will take time.

I wish you all the best!

Hey Darq,

I talked to a guy recently who's been travelling the world straight for over 11 years! He runs a couple websites and basically lives off those, but his basic principle is that if you can earn $5 a day, you can travel as long as you want - provided you manage to live for $5 a day as well. Crazy thought, but obviously he's been able to do it!

Well, I can find a job quickly because I know several languages and that's something very important here. But I don't have a college or university diploma, so unfortunately I mostly don't get jobs with much responsabilities.

Right now I'm going to study for several years to get a diploma but if this fails I will really consider the way of life that I mentionned here above. If I succeed I could plan this way of living too, it will become even easier.

I am easily bored and besides the fact that we got rights, health care and whatsoever you can't deny the fact that life in our western countries is often boring and stressful .

I am sure that with a proper planning this way of living is really possible ;).

I would need to get to a 1st word nation to do that...

Yes, I guess you need to come from a "western country" or a country with the same standarts to do this (except for a minority).

Is that what you meant?

hey darqu,

have you read the 4 hour work week by timothy ferris? That'll give you some inspiration. It tells you how to set up an online business, outsourcing most of the work and, creating passive income. its ingenius! well thats my plan. no more slaving away on the corporate treadmill after that!!!!

you should read it.

and hey if you dont want to do that. you should consider teaching languages in the countries you want to travel to. you wont get rich but atleast you're not stuck in freezing cold europe.

you can also get a hospitality job for a resort of cruise ship. A few months ago i work on a cruise ship. It was awesome. I got paid to travel. didnt get taxed, no rent or food expenses. long hours but, absolutely awesome!
