Hi folks,

I know there have been plenty of posts about volunteering, and in between the threads a few mentions of volunteering with out having to pay?

Just thought I would start one specific to non-paying volunteer projects. The criteria is that nothing leaves your pocket, bar from flight, visas, accommodation, insurance and food. If the organization pays for any of those then fine.

So does anyone know of either world wide, or country specific volunteer organizations offering such posts? Big, or small.

I can think of Voluntary Service Overseas and UN Volunteers, though the latter does not seem to be hiring much at the moment. Both cover all costs. Peace Corps, is another, but then I don't know if they except non-US citizens?

Please don't list any where you have to pay, nor spam!

Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in Co. Wicklow, Ireland

Corrymeela in Ballycastle, N. Ireland

Both are organizations based in peace work and conflict resolution, with the second also being non-denominational faith-based. So there you go!

Hi there,

heres a website that will give you a list of of volunteer jobs in south america, listing no-cost and low-cost options. I've looked it up and accomodation can cost as little as $200 AUD a month

Trust me i've been obsessively surfing the net trying to find a way to escape the cubical. there is a long list.

I know people who have volunteered for not-for profit organisations and they had to pay thousands of dollars up front, only to realise that the people who run the pragrams are driving fancy cars and have huge houses. I would like to make sure that my contribution goes into the right pocket.

Well yes, those south American link certainly pulled up a few non-profit orgs . ;)A few looking for money too.

Anyone got anything for South East Asia? Places that you do not have to pay, in order to be a volunteer?

Quoting barries

why not look for volunteer work in your own town

Because I don't have one And I am traveling right now!

I did find a fairly good directory here though.

It's still a volunteer project in itself trying to sift out all these pay 'organizations'.
