Multi Colored parrots certainly...
Yes tourist crime is a global problem, and it has it highs and lows....we have a crime epidemic in NZ...
this is not the safe, sweet clean green ideal holiday that many my perceive...be warned rather than ripped off....
The Radio news stories sight, Tourist hot Spots as ideal targets of crime. Anywhere that tourists park cars to engage or observe local sights...
Now come on - you are doing nothing but scaremongering... "a crimewave epidemic" News reports are just that news reports - cars parked anywhere whether tourist cars or not if valuables are left on show are a magnet to any would be thief. Im sure NZ has like everyother country in the world its own fair share of problems but its certainly not the worst.
Obviously yes it is good that tourists are aware and precautions taken - but scaremongering really helps no-one and will do nothing but perhaps put folk off visiting your country.
As for the parrots and reggae music no l heard that they are into thrash metal, though that may well be just a rumour
I havnt been to NZ yet, but believe me....anyone can be dangerous for tourists. Just dont act like a total lost tourist.
Hell, even in canada tourists get robbed, car's broken in to all the time. Brazil was the worst as well, I've heard hundreds of stories about Brazil. But I never have had one problem in my entire life.
Just dont act like a clueless tourist and life will be great.
- ** important piece of advice. Lock your doors. And dont wave a big wad of cash around in the air at midnight in front of a nightclub ...........then you should be ok
I cant wait to get to NZ and am hardly worried about tourist crime.
Thanks for the info. I must admit that I was a little naive about crime and what-not in NZ. We have visited brfore, but that was only for a short while.
It hasn't put me off visiting. I mean, I live in the UK...it can hardly be worse than that!
I am seriously looking forward to the trip, and will definately take heed of the info given in this thread.
Only 63 days to go!!!!
Springtime in NZ...Red enjoy your travels...
I was not intending to put people off traveling to NZ, just opening eyes.
I lived in Auckland for almost a year, and I was surprised at the level of crime there - mainly car theft and house break ins - but I wouldn't have thought it was worse for tourists especially, or that it was worse than any other country.
I mean I'd say it's probably on the same level as Ireland anyway, if not lower. I dont know.
