When I looked at this thread just a minute ago, I noticed Hien had the last reply 17 hours ago or so. While in the off topic first page with the total list, I noticed the last post was of Isadora on the 4th of Sept.
Anything I am missing here?

Michael - I was actually the last one to post in that thread yesterday afternoon. I made reference to something Lagered said but realized it was inappropriate so I removed it an hour or so later. (Basically, the brain didn't kick in until after the fact.) The deletion was done over 12 hours ago.

By the way, I just went to OT also and my name shows up as the last to post in that thread on the main page. I know Hien's is the real last post there.

Another question (that isn't really related but could be) about the stickied threads. I noticed the two in General Talk were in reverse order from the day before. I took for granted that one had been replied to and then that response deleted which would normally keep the most recently replied to thread at the top. I now just looked at the stickied threads in Off Topic. The book club thread is at top with the last reply from Aug. 26th. The post card thread is second but was posted in one day ago by Tina. Normally, that would put the post card thread at the top. Do stickied threads not "move" anymore?

ps: I also notice that when posting a reply to a thread, the date is given as day month year but when submitted, the date is shown as month day year. (I'm so confused!!! Kidding!)

this thread was about that if I am correct.

I could be wrong though as I don't know anything basically about 'systems'
I usually start to yawn when it becomes to complicated

Yes, it's a bug. I saw that bug yesterday and have notified the overlords about it.

From what I could see, this is not related to the first one. It's currently sorted in the order the threads are created. I've always viewed the threads in the All Threads page (which does not list stickied threads), so I'm not sure if the behaviour has been always like that.

It hasn't always been like that - they would "move" around. The one with the most recent post would move to the top of the stickied list. It was the one sure way I would know when someone replied in the post card thread, etc- it would be on top. Now they are static.

I think Peter broke this one. He seems to be on a roll lately! You just recruited him, didn't you?!

Yep, definitely my fault ;)

Ok, so let me explain briefly why this is happening.

1. The stickies are now pulled in separately to the rest of the threads. You'll also notice that on pages which include sticked threads, there are more than 25 threads on that page. It's a much simpler query to run and therefore speeds up the page somewhat. I didn't bother with ordering the stickies, because I didn't really consider it to be of much importance to be honest. Hadn't realized that people actually pay attention to that Easy to put back in place.

2. The last post information previously was calculated every time the index page was loaded. This was not really an ideal situation, because again, it slowed down the loading of that page considerably. So, it is now updated every time the thread is updated (ie, someone answers, etc..) By the looks of it, I didn't set it to update when moderators delete entries, which would be why it wasn't up-to-date this time. I'll check that theory and fix if so.

Ok, so my theory wasn't correct. The problem was that it was still taking deleted entries into account when calculating the latest post. Problem fixed.

Also, updated the stickies so they sort by date now as well.

Thanks Peter! I'm probably the only one who does pay attention to the stickied thread order. It's just my way of noticing new replies quickly, especially in the CA/SA ones (even though I used OT as my example). Didn't mean to make it an issue - more of an observance - but thanks for the fix all the same. I appreciate it very much!

As for recruiting Peter - yup!! I've assembled a nice little band of mischief-makers. No one knows when we'll strike again!! Mwahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
