cheap central accommodation in rome

hi
looking to go for a short break in rome in october with hubby and 16 year old. any ideas on cheapish accommodation that is quite central as will be using public transport. (i am 41 so do not fancy the idea of hostels) any suugestions would be welcome.

I stayed at the Beehive when I visited Rome. Not central per se but only a couple blocks from the huge train station that also houses the subway, bus station, a couple of grocery stores, many other stores and various fast food places. Pretty much everything a person needs to survive comfortably. I used the dorm for the cheapest accom. but they also have private rooms for families. Check them out and if you go, say Hi to Ingmar, the resident cat!

I've been to Rome now several times.

Try going to a hostel. They are cheaper than hotels. But of course
there are less in terms of services. It might have a more younger crowd though.
The Des Artistes Rome Hostel has some decent reviews and it is near a main road.

My family rented an apartment when we visited there. It was nice, but you
had to walk a bit to get to the train station. Here it is, with pictures:

Hi don t know can this help becuase it was already 7 years ago. Second corner on the left from Termini Central Station. (when you stand in front of main entrance). Place was called Il Nido - cheap, clean and very ok, run by one friendly and nice familly, with beautifull teracce on the top.
Hope they stil exist there.
P.S. Throw one coin in fontana di trevi for me i would really like to go Rome again

I second staying at Beehive. I haven't actually stayed there but I was going to when I went to Rome 3 years ago and it looked amazing.
