packing for CA

Hi travelers- I am planning to backpack in Nicaragua, Costa and Panama and would like to know of anyone who has made a similar trip and what you didn't pack but wished you would have. I'm trying to pack light but haven't left the country before, so can't be too careful... any help would be appreciated.

The only thing important enough is insect repellent. For the rest, not more than what you would backpack elsewhere.

You'll get a repellant there....Keep a good hat in mind....A good poncho.

You can live a solid life if'n the rain ain't fallin' on your head...let the rain (warm, baby, warm!) hit you! Just get a rain hat.

Thanks much, fraluchi and Piecar... I'm not afraid of the rain but will definately invest in some quality dry gear.

I backpacked through Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama a couple winters ago. AMAZING.
I would have cut what I brought with me in half.

Important items to remember:
good hiking shoes
rain jacket
long pants
shorts
SWIM SUIT
thats about it!

Go to San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua and Ometepe. Try stying at Finca Magdalena (2.50 a night) and hike Volcan Maderas.

In Panama, head to bocos tel toro, and red from beach on Bastimentos. Very pretty.
