We want to go to Mozambique during Christmas and we've never been there before. We will drive from Botswana and in most cases camp. We don't want to drive too far, mostly we want beautiful days at the beach. ( only as far north as Inhambane)
Any help or ideas about what we should do for sure and avoid especially would be helpful.
I was in Mozambique in 2000 - it was very interesting. We were in Biera and the beaches are really interesting there. Pure white sand that goes on and on - some of the best scuba diving in the world, we ate awesome seafood for really cheap. Moz also has all of this wierd portuguese archetecture and you can tell it wasn't another British colony. Difficult language barrier, but that's my fault because I only speak english. I found a few hostels / places where you could camp, if that's what you want, in Biera. They say Maputo is interesting to - off the beaten path but OK for travellers. We went north from Biera to Malawi - a trip I would not recommend on public transit. It took 40 hours. I used to live in Nsanje, Malawi.
Please go and tell me all about it!
Thanks for the info!! We were thinking of driving from Botswana just to Maputo. Did you hear if they have those fantastic beaches as well? That's really what we're looking for. We could drive up though Zimbabwe across to Beira. Do you know anything about the road from Zimbawe to Biera? I read somewhere it's difficult to get unleaded petrol. Do you know anything?
