Penang excluded... I've been there.

I need to burn time... I want to fly home already. But I will try to get cheap tickets... I am going to do Indonesia and Brunei some other time.

KL is not very cheap. I am paying 23 Rm for a dorm room near Bintang. Free internet and breakfast. But I paid 8 in Penang with no breakfast. Its just bread and cofee.

I may head to MELAKA tommorrow. But I am tired of Unesco heritage buildings. i JUST got from the National museum today...

I will get back to KL to take my flight home.

I love the bird park very much. I should check out the deer park later.
Now back to my question...

where should I go for cheap hostel and accomodations in peninsular malaysia. Preferably not too far from KL. Is Melaka my best option?

The highlands must be so expensive?

You're comparing an island city with the city centre of the country's capital. And MYR23 is relatively cheap in KL city centre.

The highlands must be so expensive?

Genting Highlands? It's a theme park cum highland resort, go figure.

Bangkok is a capital city and Phuket was ten times more expensive.
Langkawi is an island and its probably more expensive than KL.
Labuan was more expensive than KK.

As for the highlands, Its a theme park?/resort? I get it!

Langkawi is an island and its probably more expensive than KL.

In both cases, you're comparing a capital city with a highly touristy island.

Labuan was more expensive than KK.

Labuan is a federal territory (not part of Sabah) and an international offshore financial centre (which is why there are so many international banks on a small island) while KK is the capital of the least developed state in the country.
