Evening all........

I've just started reading Michael Palins 1988 book, "Around the world in 80 days", and guess what, I wanna try it.....

I look to do most of my travelling across land, starting in my home town of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, though would look to hop over the oceans on the back of the big steel bird... Saying that, is there any legs of the journey where you can get a ferry, or does that cost way to much??? Eg.. New York back to Europe.... Or Shanghai to Tokyo....

I'm going to start plotting a route, to include places of interest though was wondering if any of you guys have already done such a trip, and where you would suggest..... When I was in China, I met a Scottish lad who had travelled there via Northern Europe then Russia, all across land... Sounded canny....

I have a bit of a wait before I could start such a trip, though reckon the planning it will help fuel the travel bug that is burning away inside of me......

Thanks, look forward to hearing from yous soon...

Unfortunatly i can't give you any advice on it but keep me up to date on how your planning is going. It's lame as hell, but i watched the cartoon version of around the world in 80 days as a kid and it's what set me off wanting to travel:)

My early stages of planning my first leg is looking as follows.

A ferry ride from my home town of Newcastle to Amsterdam.

InterRail Global pass from Netherlands to Italy, via Germany and Switzerland.

Bari in Italy, take a ferry to Patra in Greece (Costing less than £50 which I thought was not too bad)

From there heading to Athens via the Corinth Canal.....

Flight from Athens to Cairo, Eygpt, where I look to see a bit of the Nile....

I'm not to sure from now.... Probs India, though any suggestions would be great.... It is just the early stages of planning just now...
