My brother and I are planning a vacation between March 12 - 22. We would like to visit Europe or South America. If we visit Europe we plan to visit Eastern Europe and use the train system to move from country to country--we would likely visit 2 or three countries in our ten day span. If we do South America we would likely do Argentina--flying into Buenos Aires, renting a car, traveling to Tierra del Fuego, and then working our way back to the capital for our return flight.

In regards to Europe, I was wondering if anyone on the forum could provide insight as to vacation options. I'm looking for suggestions of places to visit in Eastern Europe. Has anyone been on a similar trip or planned a similar? What countries would you suggest? Was there anything you should/would have done differently?

Any information will help. Thanks.

Since u only got ten days u can maybe choose 2-3 cities

Id suggest start in Prague and make ur way south.
Prague - Bratislava (great bars, very cheap beers and food, nearby Cathice Castle) - Budapest (the communist Park, Turkish Bath, Turkish Market)

these three cities will give you a good flavor for East Euro

Or the Baltics - Tallinn - Riga - Vilnius

but for your first time - stick to the first option probably.

Another possibility is Istanbul with a side trip to one of their Mediteranian beaches. This would be much more exotic than Czech or Hungary. Don't try to see too much in your 10 days.

Hey there! 10 days is really not too much for Europe as well too short for Argentina.
Keep in your mind that probably will have a jetlag, especially dramatic it could be in Europe and that weather in Europe cant be worse then it is in March.
I liked an idea of Prague - Bratislava – Budapest, would suggest Krakow (in Poland) and Berlin (that not exactly East, but inexpensive as well and extremely interesting).
Tallinn – Riga and Vilnius (Baltic countries) – I’m familiar with and love it there, but it would be really difficult to manage.
Try to spend less time in the way and more time on sightseeing.
Prague is not only attractive (architecture) but it is excellent for beer-lovers.
Transylvania in Romania is absolutely lovely (if you going there don’t spend time on Budapest).

  • Istanbul – its not Europe at all! Turkey has it’s attractions but nothing about European experience.

yeah while I will always say iStanbul is the best city in Europe - It is Europe - for your first trip you should see old Europe really. And you have to get a Visa for Turkey if your American.

Transylvania is also a good option - fly to Budapest and fly outta Bucharest (dont stay in Bucharest more than a nite)
