Right guys, help me choose! I have a short 3 weeks at the end of the year and am thinking of doing Vietnam Hanoi - Saigon, or Indonesia from Jogja to Bali/Lombok. Its a nice dilemma to have...

So which would you choose? Any particular reasons? And do mention some places that i shouldn't miss...

Thanks in advance

you're right..its a great dilemma to have!
well, i've been to both countries and i loved them both so so much..but if you had to make me choose i'd say indonesia. It's a lot bigger as it is made up of quite a few islands and i would actually advise you not to spend all your time in java (where jakarta and jogya is) and the smaller islands like bali and not saying dont spend time there, because you MUST. but you are there for 3 weeks..spend 4 or 5 days, visitng places like Sulewesi, Sumatra..i promise you, it will be well worth it! offers some great articles and guides on both indonesia and vietnam, so if you like im sure you could check it out.

(If you do choose vietnam though, please, please try and see this place called Dalat..its my absolute favourite place in the country!)

If you stay in Vietnam, don't skip Hanoi, halong, Sapa, Hue, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh city with Mekong delta river trip!

I suppose you have to let us know first what you are primarily interested in during your holidays.

Cities, Historic Sites, National Parks and Landscapes, Parties, Beaches,...

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Im actually a "a bit of everything" type of traveller, if that helps at all Basically, i like diversity - hanging out a few days in the cities, going trekking for a week or so, the occassional party, visiting historical sites...

I am afraid what Al_ln had suggested is for a relaxing holiday than travel with a big variety of taste.
I suppose, Vietnam have more choices for a big traveller if you're a bit of everething. All you can get in Vietnam are Hiking, mountain, beach, culture, party, food ... you name it

If I were you, I'll try to find more time and visit all these places....

I spent three weeks doing Nam, Saigon - Hanoi, it's a perfect amount of time! I've not been to Indonesia yet so cant comment. If you do make Nam, must agree that Dalat is a lovely place that a lot of people by-pass, def worth a visit! It's a great country and you'll love it. Best of luck making your decision...not a bad one to have to make I might add!!

I have been to both . I would choose Indonesia. Vietnam is nice, but !!!!you have to be continuously on guard for scams, and the continuous rip offs that are so rife in that country.
