Hi, I'm Lauren,
I am thinking (very seriously) about moving to England for 6 months, the longest I can go without needing a UK visa. I live in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and was thinking of subletting my apartment for those six months. I'll probably make my great escape between Spring and Summer of '09. Since most residents of the city would need something more long term, I figured I would send out a post to travellers who may be in the same mindset as me and just need a place to stay for the season.

I look forward to hearing back...Thanks!

Hi Lauren,
I'd be very tempted if I could think of an excuse to spend six months in New York!
I spent a week in Feb on the Upper East Side (Surrey Hotel, 76th street) and felt right at home.
Now if I could get some work over there....

Finding a job, that could be a toughie. It looks like Americans can visit the UK for six months without a Visa but Brits can only visit the US for three months without needing one. If you are willing to bartend, there are plenty of Irish pubs that hire off the books. I will not be able to work while in the UK but was thinking of going that route. If you can manage it, please let me know and we will work something out!

Hey Lauren,

I'm tied into a lease in midtown until May 2009, but if you think you might be subletting after that I'd be interested to hear about it!

What's your rent like?

Hmmm, May 2009 might just work. It's a studio in the East 70's, will remain fully furnished, 24 hr doorman, laundry room in bldg. According to real estate sites, I would sublet in the $2,000 month range. Thanks, let me know!
