Hi Glashling, Last year I stayed at the Hotel Caprera, which is just a few minutes' walk from the train station (Santa Lucia station), which war very handy. The hotel itself is a simple 3 stars with newer rooms and bathrooms in a quiet side street. I would definitely go back there, as the prices were also very good for Venice. Breakfast is served in the room. Hope this helps! It is also close to the vaporetto station so you can easily reach other parts of Venice. However, walking is also a good suggestion, the little calles in Venice are so cute and nothing is really far, as Venice is not so huge.
