Going to Venice at the end of October for 4 nights and wondering where the best area to stay is..? There are two of us going - should we look for an apartment or a hotel..? Budget is between €400-800 - obviously the cheaper the better but still want something decent!! Thanks..

Hi Glashling,

Last year I stayed at the Hotel Caprera, which is just a few minutes' walk from the train station (Santa Lucia station), which war very handy. The hotel itself is a simple 3 stars with newer rooms and bathrooms in a quiet side street. I would definitely go back there, as the prices were also very good for Venice. Breakfast is served in the room. Hope this helps! It is also close to the vaporetto station so you can easily reach other parts of Venice. However, walking is also a good suggestion, the little calles in Venice are so cute and nothing is really far, as Venice is not so huge.

Stayed at the Ponte Chiodo Townhouse Suite in June this year for two nights and loved the little b&b place. It is located on the fifth stop (Ca D'Oro stop) from Piazzale Roma and is very close to the Rialto bridge. Walking distance from stop to the b&b is around 5 mins. Also, it is cheap for Venice at Euro 85 per night for a single room (which is tiny and compact and clean) and I think it was 95 for a double. Free internet access plus you can make your own tea and coffee anytime you like in the tiny kitchen downstairs (which is a bonus for Italy).

Are you very firm on staying only in Venice ? I guess when you are planning to stay there for 4 nights, you can as well try other nearby islands like Burano, Murano and Lido etc near Venice. They are approachable by ferry and very cheap and less congested.
