Travel Forums General Talk How fun is planning a trip???

I'm sitting here at home, surrounded by travel books including dozens of indvidual Country guides, "501 must see places to visit" and "1st time around the world", a 100cm x 50 cm map of the world, my notepad, pen, a half packet of mints, my address book of travel contacts and my laptop, with lists of travel related sites stored in my favorites section. What am I doing?????????

Yes, planning my next trip... How exciting is planning the next trip????

I'm getting such a buzz, ploughing through websites and books, looking for ideas and suggestions on what and where to go. Although I'm months before setting off, I'm walking about on such a high just thinking about it.

I sometimes find myself just staring at a small map. To some, its just coloured shapes with writing in the middle of them surrounded by sea-blue, though to us travellers, its a bit of paper, that gives us the same amount of reading pleasure as a 1000 page novel. "Mmmmmm, where to go....."

Already, I've came up with a number of potential trips. Some only 2 weeks long, some would take months. I'm kind of logging them and hope to some day be able to tick them off as complete, although some of them, I would have to win the lottery before even considering taking on board..... Nether the less, its the planning, plotting and hours of reading forums etc that I enjoy. I LOVE IT..........

I'm sure most will feel the same way and I would love to hear, maybes your planning tecniques or stories on planning a trip..

Hey John,

I know exactly what you mean! I LOVE thinking about where I'm off to next. I've just bought a huge world map for my the wall of my office and if I'm having a bad day, i just look at it and it gives me the spur I need to keep going.

Thinking about a trip and researching different countries is such a buzz I find. I don't like planning the specifics really, but the general jist of the trip.

I remember spending literally weeks planning out a route through Asia. (in the end I cancelled the trip as it turned out fr various reasons) but I really had so much work done on it that it was a pity. I had enlisted the help of various TP members, spent hours on-line reading about the countries on my list and sourcing cheap airfares. Sometimes, if you have the time to spend researching on the net, you can come across some ideas that you might never have thought of or come across yourself.

Anyway, your post put a smile on my face. I love that feeling that you're talking about.

Happy researching!

planning a trip?.. I love it... everytime... well... of course I need to pin point a place to go first and then I'd spend hours and hours of researching and plotting my itinerary... I simply love it...

Actually some of my friends had relied on me on building and organizing our trips to Bohol, Cebu, Boracay and even in Singapore... and the latest is the plan that I've been building for our trip to HOng KOng and Macau this October... which I have began building since June hehehe...

I am a geography obsessive and I can spend hours pouring over maps. Planning the trip is almost as fun as actually going on it (almost). Even planning trips you never intend on going on!

I like to get a world map, look at a place, and go okay . . . Now how to get there? Then break out the guide book or internet.

Though I rarely buy them, I will admit to getting inspiration from great photography books. I see a photo, and go... I wanna be there!

I haven't much experience about travllering

As I first i take some information about the place where i want to go from friends,
then i study the map of that area and make a trip.
