Hi all

Could someone give me some information on travelling around Europe in a van. There are 4 of us so we are thinking about getting 2 vans (2 in each). Would this be cheaper than doing a busabout etc? Where would be the best place to pick up a cheap van?Any other tips or things we should know/do?? We're planning on doing it around March/April 2009.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi Greydog,

You sound a little desperate. No need to. Take the plane to Amsterdam, Schiphol airport. Then hop on the train to Utrecht central station. From there you take the bus in the direction of Veemarkt. This is a large 'exhibition' hall and field where every Tuesday second hand cars are offered for sale. You can find any used car there, so also vans. All of these have man kilometers on the dashboard, so there are definitely bargains to find you can use for your holiday plans in Europe. Of course, the more people are travelling in one van, the more competitive it will be versus the cost of individual bus tickets. I hope this suggestio will be useful for you. Enjoy your future stay in Europe.

Ciao, Amorphis

Thankyou very much, is some good food for thought there. We were hoping to start in Paris and then head in the direction of Amsterdam. Would PAris be an ok place to pick up a travel van?

Another quick question.. Were planning on travelling around for approx. 2 months. Are hpoing to see a fair amount of Europe. Not so much eastern europe but would love to finish down near Croatia. Would this time frame mean we would be in a mad rush or is it ok??

I think it would be a mad rush.
I'm in Europe now, and using trains. I would pick the main places you want to hit, allowing for some unexpected excursions along the way and go from there. Make your plans manageable.

I've been in Paris five weeks and haven't seen much information on used cars/vans. I haven't really been looking, but you might have some luck in the Parisian suburbs.

Hope this helps!
