Do Thais know a lot about the geography of India? Do they know anything about the famous Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India (such as Varanasi, Khajuraho, Sarnath, and Dharamsala)?

I doubt the general population know a lot about it. Why do you want to know? |

As the Thai education system leaves most Thai people completely in the dark even when locating their own country on a map, I would guess the answer to your question is a resounding NO! However I too am curious to know why you ask this question. [ Edit: Edited on Sep 14, 2008, at 7:14 PM by wildfk ] |

I can understand why Annalem asked this question.... Since 95% of Thai population are Buddhist ( according to 2000 Census) and most of the historical sites related to Lord Buddha are situated in India( like the place he attained enlightenment(Bodh Gaya), the place he preached his first sermon(Sarnath) , the place he attained Mahaparinirvana(Kushinagar), Annalem must be wondering whether Thai people are curious to know about the place where the founder of their religion spent his entire life. |

Thais learn a lot about the famous Buddha locations in India at school, but most forget over time. Buddhakaya has turned into a popular destination for Thais. |
