Hello all. Great board you have here! I was wondering if I could get a little advice.

I am going on my honeymoon February 22, 2009. My fiance and I were planning on going to Tahiti, but it looks like it might be too expensive, but its not out of the question. I've been quoted around 10 grand for 6 nights or so by local traveling agencies. Is Fiji a nice and affordable place to go? If all possible I'd like to trim the price down to around 5 grand. Money is somewhat tight but I really want to go to a nice place for our honey moon. I've only been out of the country once and that was on a cruise. Time is trimming down now and I think I should book it all soon. How soon would you all recommend booking a place in Tahiti or Fiji?

Does anyone have a directory of hotels in Fiji and Tahiti that I can contact directly? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced! :)

First of all, you could save quite a bundle by planning and buying that trip by yourself (on the net). My friends are also spending their honeymoon in Tahiti soon, but they're quite wealthy. If it's really going to break the bank, there are many other bits of paradise around the world. What about the Seychelles or Goa? All you need is an air ticket and a hotel - couldn't be easier. Do you really need to go to one of the most expensive places in the world? New Zealand is really nice, not terribly expensive, not terribly crowded, but also not terribly tropical - I loved it years ago. Fiji was interesting/tropical, but I would not call it a paradise. $10,000. is a GREAT deal of money for only 6 nights!!!

For the kind of money you're thinking about spending Fiji is an excellent choice, the only problem being almost too much choice.

Rob's Fiji Guide has a comprehensive list of high end resorts http://www.fijiguide.com/

Margaret's Travel books 'em all http://www.fiji-islands-travel.com/

Just stay away from the Coral Coast head for your own private island somewhere and you'll be right.

I've been to Tahiti and it is expensive. They are so many places you could go to for a honeymoon that is OS, by the sea and beautiful. Some thoughts are Goa, Koh Lanta, Halong Bay, HCMC, Qingdao, Beihai, Phi Phi, Vanuata, Fiji Islands, Somoa, Cook Islands, Tonga, Hawaii, Nieu, NZ, Norfolk. The list is endless.
