2 girls travelling, need some ideas...

My best friend and I are planning a weekend getaway from work and family life. We aren't looking for more than 3 or 4 days. We live in NJ and would like to get away from our area (meaning not NJ, NY, DE, or PA). But we cannot decide where we should go. We do not want to go to Vegas, been there done that or Florida for the same reason. We're looking to go farther West or South. We are up for driving or flying, but aren't looking to spend a ton of money.

We are looking for a bit of sight seeing, outdoor adventure (water, horseback riding, hiking, exploring, etc). But we are also looking for shopping and night life. We are brainstorming and I am just looking for some feedback. Where would you recommend us go? Thanks.

Just a nice area in the southwest with convenient airport access from Albuquerque.

I'm suggesting 2 days in Portland and the rest in Seattle/Puget Sound area. A great deal of outdoor activities in this natural environment, and it won't break the bank either. Oregon has no sales tax, and prices are below those in California. Seattle will be a tad more expensive with higher hotel prices. You can save money by using Amtrak's Cascade Service (3 hrs between cities). You'll love the laid back lifestyle and great food in both areas.

Depends upon when you are going.

If you are leaving right away, I'd agree with Daawgon and say go to Seattle and Portland, for else a few days in San Francisco or else a few days on the beach in southern California at either Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, or San Diego.

My wife (who is from New Jersey) did this and never moved back.

If you are planning on travelling in the winter (like November through February), then I'd suggest a quick ski trip to Colorado, to California (Mammoth Mountain or Lake Tahoe), to Oregon (Mount Bachelor), to New Mexico (Taos), or to British Columbia, Canada (Whistler), or else that you head farther west to Hawaii, or farther south to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico or Cancun.
