Hi everyone! Im from Canada and Im planning to travel to Italy in december (2008), I already got a job offered as a teacher assistant and my boyfriend is Italian so I will be staying with him. I want to stay until August which is 8 months. The work holiday visa thats offered is only up to 6 months and I dont know what to do in order to stay those extra 2 months. I understand there is a residency permit, which can be extended, so will this be enough since I dont think its possible to extend my visa? If anyone could please help asap i would really appreciate it. Thank you

Your visa is essentially a residency permit - a special kind of residency permit, but a residency permit nevertheless.

I strongly advice you to contact the Italian embassy and ask about this issue. If they say it is no problem, have them give it to you in writing that you can extend your 6-month visa for the remaining 2 months.

Hi Iva,

i'm not sure how the VISA process works in Italy, but have you looked into asking your employers to ask for an extension of your VISA. In most countries, once an employer asks you to stay on, you can usually extend your current VISA or apply for a new one.
