I'm new in this forum and dosen't quite know how it works ! ! !
I'm going "Down Under". I arrive in Sydney 14 / 10 - 2004. My plan is to stay there for a couple of months and then I will be heading off for New Zealand to stay there for a month. Afterwards I planned to travel around in Australia. I just wanted to know how the jobsituation is for backpackers ? My "plan" is to work my way around if that is possible?
Get your visa first and check out TNT magazine, there'll be lists of orchards that do casual employment and the like...enjoy.
I work for a recruitment centre that finds work for backpackers. It's free to join at www.recruitoz.com and there's loads of work available now. My advice would be to work as soon as you get here and then go travelling as it gets harder to find work near Christmas and until the end of January (it's summer holidays so it's a bit of a black hole for work between mid-december and end of jan / beginning of Feb)
anyway, if you need any advice, feel free to give one of us a call at 02 82976100 or e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org. If we can't find you work, we'll be able to point you in the right direction - everyone who works here is either a backpacker now or has been recently so we know exactly what it's like
cheers and enjoy your trip over
im here at the moment.
It seems like every hostel is looking for workers. Some give free board in return for a few hours work each day and other offer paid work.
There certainly seems lots of casual work around
