Hi all, I just to hear what people think about the situation in Bangkok and Thailand is at the moment.

I've managed to get myself a cheap return ticket from Auckland to Bangkok for mid Oct, but since heard that there is civil unrest, public demonstrations/rallies and crashes between pro and anti-government factions. I have done a brief search on the internet and the generally feeling is that is is mainly confined to the area around government house and otherwise life goes on as usual elsewhere.

My question is, is it safe to travel to Bangkok or other parts of Thailand in October? Is the unrest just confined to Bangkok or widespread in Thailand?

Would really appreciate any opinion, especially eager to hear from those who have been to Thailand recently. Thank you all.

Hi -

I've been here 4 years. There wasn't much trouble even during the coup or the bombs in bkk. You're ok to go through bkk right now - and just go somewhere else. I wouldn't hang around there - go explore the rest of the country. All is business as usual right now.

Expect delays - just because they might pop up. Other than that - come and relax like everyone else.

:) Vern

I was in Thailand a few weeks ago back when the top of this "political unrest hype" was leading the news. Unless you were right in the area near the demonstrations you would never know anything was going on! The rest of Bangkok seemed pretty normal!

I am planning on being back in Thailand in October again, by the way, with tourism down it should be easier to get hotels at discounts and other extras! I don't think you will have any problem with most of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and other popular destinations.

You could change your holiday to another place and that place have some political problem come up or a serious terrorist attack like in Bali.

Life is an adventure - sometimes you have to take some chances, real or imagined!

Good luck.

We are living in Chiangrai, northern Thailand. Live is moving as normal. All political activities are confined in Bkk.

There is nothing to be of concerned up in this northern region.;)

Should you be worried of your safety, go stay with some local families.
