Travel Forums Wiki Travel Guide Spotlight Articles

I've been pondering the idea of making certain articles a "spotlight" for a week at a time. These articles would not need to be featured, but could just be relevant at the time, or in need of some work. They can then be shown on the front page of Travellerspoint as a way of generating extra interest for the guide and extra contributions. I think we would want the community to decide which articles should be spotlighted. Picking topical destinations is always a good idea. We should create the list of upcoming spotlights a couple of months in advance, so it also gives writers of the guide a chance to add a lot of content before the article is spotlighted.

Any ideas from you guys on this?

You basically mean which articles at which time, as ideas?

During Christmas I vote for Finland

Was PM'ing a while ago with Hien about the lack of wiki content on the home page. A spotlighted article that is relevant to some kind of current happening sounds like a good idea to me! Note to Utrecht: Santa is from Norway, didn't you know?! :) Around the 5th of December we could tie it in with Sinterklaas, ie. the Netherlands.

Ok, maybe Finland now then, with yet another freak in the news.

Isn't Santa from the North Pole?

Yeah, ideas on which articles to spotlight, but also ideas on how to run this thing.. whether there should be any specific criteria, etc.. or just random nominating and then a decision made by one of the admin (or one of you guys, I don't mind ).

But yeah, obvious choices would be to have Ireland around the week of St Patrick's day, ski destinations in winter, Sydney at new years maybe. That kind of line of thinking makes sense to me and would make for a nice addition to the front page I think.

Hey guys, sorry....just woke up from a few days of heavy sleep and didn't notice this....

Great idea.......I don't think anything has to be set in stone, but keeping it topical and up-to-date with current world events, holidays around the world, tropical travel to warm climates for people stuck in the dead of winter (like the 100 inches of snow we had this year....), etc., is a great way to keep people interested. Make it fun, and they will come.

I agree with Kris that it should be somewhat flexible. Having a plan months in advance is a good idea, but we should also be able to chop and change if some major world event happens that warrants it.

In terms of article nomination, maybe we should start a wiki article for the purpose and use the discussion page as a means to make suggestions.
