Andy,
This is actually a pretty straight forward trip. I have taken the open tour bus from HaNoi to HCMC. After a few days touring HCMC, I took the bus to Phnom Penh. Best bet is to use the Sinh Cafe bus: HCMC-PP. They go everyday for $12. They also get your Cambodian visa for you once on the bus. They charge $5 over the visa price for this service. Once in PP, you have several choices. You can take a bus or boat up to Siem Reap, visit Angkor Wat, then overland by share taxi or bus to the Thai border, bus or train to BKK. From BKK, you have your choice of bus or train to Hat Yai, then into Malaysia at Penang. Or you can go straight PP-BKK with the Capitol GH bus. Another option is to take a share taxi, van or bus from PP to Koh Kong. Into Thailand at the Hat Lek crossing, van to Trat, bus to BKK. A good website is here for the PP-Siem Reap-BKK part.

I have many photos of this trip in my gallery. I also wrote about part of this trip in my blog. Send me a PM if you have specific questions.

Andy,
I took 3 weeks sightseeing in VN: HaNoi-HCMC. HCMC to PP is about 8 hours now, road is much better. Read about it in my blog. You can get from PP to BKK in one long day now. I went from Sihanoukville-Pattaya in about 14 hours. Most take the overnight bus or train down to Hat Yai from BKK, figure 12-15 hours. Now you are close to Malaysia and you know your way from here. Good Luck.
