Anyone on the BUNAC programme arrive in Canada recently?

Did immigration check that you had a ticket leaving Canada/North America?

Did you arrive overland from the states or land at a Canadian airport?

Hey Mark,

I know that my brother had to have proof of a return ticket to Ireland (not even an onward ticket to somewhere else from Canada which he would have preferred.) I think that's because he went through USIT. So, bascially, he had to buy a return ticket at great cost, which he has not used. He's currently caught up in lots of red tape trying to figure out how he can stay for another year.

I've just returned from 2 weeks there. When are you going?

Hey samsara,

Thanks for the reply. Thats a little troubleing. Did your brother fly into Canada or did he cross the border from the USA?
Im off to Vancouver in January.
What did you think of Canada?

he flew into v'couver from ireland. if you want to have a word with him I can give you an email address, although I think he might be on a road trip this week. just let me know.

Canada was absolutely spectacular! I spent most of my time in BC and Alberta. The autumn colours were beautiful (mainly yellows and oranges - I hear you have to go further east to see the reds). Did a lot of hiking and saw all sorts of crazy wildlife. The weather was great, although it was snowing when I was leaving.

I loved the Canadians I met. They seem to be a really chilled out easy going nationality. The Jasper and Banff regions are just mind-blowing! If you're an outdoors person you're going to love the Rockies.

Anyway, best of luck with your trip over. Apparently, there's not a lot of Irish travelling or WHVing in Canada, so if you're looking to escape home for a while you're going to the right place :)

hi, i flew into vancouver from scotland at the beginning of sept, i also used the bunac program!

they did not check my flight details at immigration. i thought that bunac made you send confirmation of your return flight before they would give you your visa??.... thats what happened with me, then they send you out your visa documents and that is what you show the immigration people!

vancouvers great you'll love it!

also... you could not get a return flight for 1 year in advance.... so basically the return flight i bought i had to abandon-so i bought one for like 3 weeks after i arrived in the country as this was the cheapest one i could find - bunac/immigration did not seem to care that obviously i would clearly not be using it!

i hope some of that makes sense!!

Thats a big releif - Ive got a bus ticket from Mexico to Guetamala that BUNAC accepted, but wasnt sure that the Canadian Immigration officials would do. Sounds like it should be fine though.

Cheers for the Info
