Hi,

Has anyone been to World's first formula one night race in Singapore? How was the experience?

Cheers,
Daniel

I WAS THERE!!!!!

Got a lucky break! My uncle had extra tickets so I got to go for free, it wasn't until after everything ended when I realised how much those tickets cost! Was in the first row at Connaught Drive near a bend.

It was absolutely exciting (but you have to know abit about F1 to be able to fully understand things otherwise you'll just be bored to see the cars whizzing by) and I've never seen Singapore looked so beautiful. Coud do with more giant screens though so that spectators could see what's going on at other parts of the circuits without straining.

The circuit enveloped an area where only ticket holders could enter, and it was turned into a big party area. There were foodstalls selling local food, snacks and drinks, some of the most popular bars and clubs set up stands to sell drinks or had their own DJs an dancefloors, there were number of stages with local and international acts, and of course the merchandise stores. Shops at the Esplanade were also open.

I really can't put in words the experience, but it was definitely worth the damage to my eardrums, the breathing in of the noxious-smelling air from burning rubber, and the heat and humidity. I'm gong back next year for sure!!!

Here's a link from a friend with really nice photos of the circuit and skyline http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/the_singapore_grand_prix.html

yeah totally agree about the screening situation, never the less Singapore should be wayyyy proud with how things turned out, 1 thing putting on a race event but for it to be the 1st night race, its a hugeee deal - and they done themselves proud, the running of events was second to non ... from getting into the site to navigatting around - all was sooo easily done which isnt allways the case at such events!

i had an absolute blast that weekend, as usuall its all over so quickly, its true what they say 'time flies when your having fun'

couldnt of asked for a more action packed race either, the fact it lasted for 2 hours and the whole 61 laps couldnt be completed in time says it all ...

a very proud moment for singapore - i will return for another night race without a doubt!

That's right, I worked at an office building just opposite the race, and had the privilege to see the preparation of the race. The last week was at full momentum when everybody stepped up the pace and finished the work in time. I saw part of practice where the cars zoomed and handled the turns like the wind. I didn't think it was not easy getting used to driving in the city but they were fantastic. It was a momentous event, where we had a lot of unexpected results as well.. Who would think a fuel hose will be stuck on Massa's car, and kimi raikkonen would hit the barrier when he was ahead... Only downside was the traffic was a bit uncontrolled during the one week prior to the race.

Just curious, did anyone find the time to shop around in Singapore?
