Dusseldorf, Munich, Berlin, and Hamburg - two weeks

Hello all!

i will be traveling with my friend to Dusseldorf for two days (Oct 30th and Oct 31st) and then heading to Munich for the Mineral/Gem show for another two days. Then i'm off to berlin and finally Hamburg. Wanted to know if anyone had some unique suggestions for any of these areas. especially the first two, since i'm clueless about them.

I know Dusseldorf has a lot of interesting, modern architecture. just wondering, where should i start?

I'm an art addict and music lover. though not a big fan of mainstream. so if you know of any unique multimedia events, art/music happenings, a friend's party (ha ha! really!), or just any spot that displays works from new and/or innovative artists, pleeease let me know.

my trip is only for two weeks, and i'm really trying to pack it in with historical markers, atypical flair, or just something fun. Local culture is of particular importance as i don't like to get stuck in touristy stuff. i know some german (well, kinda rusty now), but not shy to try.

You should definitely set aside a lot of time for Berlin. Berlin is the place to be right now in Europe for art/music happenings or new and innovative artists. There is just sooo much to see and do, it is impossible to give you any tips at all. Your best bet is to check out the local magazines like "Zitty" or the small handmade flyers distributed around or at the walls of the subway stations. Given your interests I would even suggest that you drop that visit to Hamburg of your schedule or cut it very short, as Berlin will definitely be the better destination out of the 2 for you.

I've been to Hamburg and Berlin before. I don't plan to spend a lot of time in Hamburg. Just that i wanted to take my friend to Dialogue im Dunkeln, and also wanted to visit a friend who was very generous to me when i went about a year ago.

but i'll definitely check out the flyers and Zitty while i'm there. thanx again!
