We are leaving Brisbane on 8th March, arriving in Cairns around 17th March. We are going along the coast, however, I would like to spend a day or two inland, it's too far to go to proper outback, but I thought about a quick trip to a national park? have you got any suggestions ?

I quite liked Eungella National Park. I don't think you can really get deep into that park, but just the edges have lots of pretty places already. And there's a very high chance of seeing platypuses at Broken River.

Check out epa.qld.gov.au/parks
Mossman Gorge/Daintree National park is worth a visit. It is 80Km north of Cairns
Cape Tribulation is diverse. You have rainforest mountains down to the sandy beaches. It is 110km north of Cairns.
Whitsunday Island's National Park is spectacular. Start at Airlie beach. Catch a boat to an island, camp, snorkel, see the Great Barrier Reef.
There are way too many options in Qld.

If you turn inland at Innisfail about 100km from Cairns and travel via Millaa Milla and Atherton to Mareeba and Kuranda to Cairns. There are some great National parks and camping spots if you only have a few days.
