I might go there on the 12th... there is one dorm for extreme backpackers... almost 100 baht. Its a very tiny capital... you will find it. From the national museum make your way to the mekong and these places are half way to the river. Definitely not helpful info... But the dorm room place is facing a FUJI shop. It is in the intersection of a street with a nice hotel and a bookstore. I should get an award for my attempt to give you the direction. |

Hi opospa I stayed at the Joe Guesthouse by the Mekong - it was 5 USD a night for a single room, plus very very clean shared baths. The friendly owners also give it a very homely feel. Most tuk tuk drivers know this place, and at night there is a night market (good ping kai - grilled chicken) right opposite it, by the Mekong, so location wise this is one interesting place! There are also many bars and restaurants nearby, so you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. |

joe gusethouse is nice as well and cheap but if you really like better there are some places along the way and you can check the room first before agreeing to pay. |

Laos is more expensive... than eating in Bangkok. Just remember the sticky rice for 5 baht is like a bowl... unlike in Bangkok its a teaspoon on a plastic. The restaurants in the river banks are not cheap. They all sell the same food and its a very long area. BEERS are cheap, BEER laos. But its worth one meal at night time. I am excited to be coming back. The THA LUANG is my favorite temple in southeast Asia, next to ANGKOR. |
