Hey guys,
Very helpful website, just a quick question to anyone who knows about the working visa process. I've completed the online application and have my biometrics in Melbourne this Thursday. I know im looking at about 6 weeks wait but I would love to get over to other parts of Europe before then. Is this possible? Do you have to be at your home address for when it's approved? And what happens when it's approved? Probably stupid questions, but it really would change my travel plans.
Cheers Trev

The working visa (or is it working holiday visa? - there is a difference) is for which country?

Don't they have to put the visa in your passport?
I don't know I've never had a working visa, only a tourist visa but they usually have to be stuck in your pass port which would mean you can't leave until they've stuck it in there... I guess...?

The UK WHM visa is not like Australia's WHV where everything is done electronically. Even after making an online application, you still have to submit your passport, application forms and other required documents to the British High Commission. So until the process is completed, you won't be getting your passport back from them. You'll get an Entry Clearance sticker on your passport if your application is approved.

So I cant really book a flight anywhere outside Aus until I get it back, which is extremely annoying. At the end of the biometrics tommorow I send off the application form and passport by snail mail to Canberra? Bit suss about mailing off my passport to be honest.

You might not have to submit another set of application form, but I'm sure they'll need your passport and other supporting documents (e.g. bank statements, proof of funds, etc). What did the website say at the end of the online application process? Anyway, if you're unsure, ask for more information when you go for the biometrics tomorrow. They will advise you with the latest procedures applicable to Australia.
