Any recomendations for a good Diving School to do the PADI course?

There's heaps of good and safe diving schools on Ko Tao, so it all depends on where you want to stay on the Island and whether you want to do the course with a big school or a smaller one. One of my friends who I was travelling with at the time got his Open Water at Crystal Dive and since I was already certified I also did a few dives with them. Equipment and diving instructors were great, plus the fact that we got free accomodation for a couple of days (because my friend did his PADI) was a bonus. Social life at Crystal Dive is definitely nice as well, but then I've heard other good stories from various diving schools on the Island. Maybe check it out once you get there!
Have fun ;)!

I stayed at Ban's Diving Resort and it was quite nice.
The diving was fun and the room had AC, TV and a private bathroom with a shower (not the cheapest on the island but hey, the room was bug free and I like that. You get a discount if your diving and if your good you can even get the room for free while your doing the course).
Only con was that they never clean your room, I've been there twice and the first time I stayed for 2 weeks. I ended up "stealing" a clean sheet for my bed from an unattended maid's cart, and buying cleaning spray at the store to clean my showe Not really something to complain about when your backpacking anyway.
But the diving was fun, my instructor was great and after I went some friends of mine went to the same place and they all liked it.

Ban's is cheap so if that's your priority then it's great, however, they tend to churn out the Padi courses and not all instructors are that good. have been diving for 8 years and I did my advanced padi there. Whilst I was blessed with a great instructor, I was horrifed at some of the others I saw while we were in the water. Unfortunately so many newbies start out here so they don't know the difference and they're just happy to get they're open water but then they go to dive elsewhere and may realise there were shortcuts taken.

Have a good look around and sometimes the smaller outfits are better.

Best of luck!

I spent my time at Big Blue Dive Centre on Sairee Beach, amazing atmosphere, great guys and always felt very safe. When we were out in the water we saw Ban's boat reverse with 4 divers still in the water around the boat and it was a bit of a heart stopping moment, luckily no-one got hurt but this kind of incident shows that some companies are a bit of a factory.

Did anyone go to Big Bubble on Koh Tao, the guy on the boat over there was hilarious and had a real cockney accent and knew all the rhyming slang,

I just came back from 2 weeks on Koh Tao, I did my open water course and my advanced course with Ban's, I also stayed there. I loved it. The accomodation and facilities were great. The diving was fantastic, the instructors were amazing. We had a small group with an instructor and a junio instructor and also a dive master trainee. They were very patient and heaps of fun!
