Travel Forums System Talk TP Search Tool

Hi guys,

Just wondering about the search field on TP. For example someone just subscribed to my blog via email subscription, which is strange in itsself and I have no idea who they are. So I did a search on their name and came up with nothing

Any ideas why a name does not show up on the search tool?

I believe the search index only updates once a day (week?) nowadays, as continuous updates proved to be too much of a performance hit. (It's been many months since I last heard anything about this though, so I might be wrong here.)

Since this thread is about search though, could I once more make a request to the powers that be to extend the maximum length of the forum search from "one year" to "indefinite"? The longer I'm active on the forum, the more often I want to refer to something I wrote before, and the more often this "something" was written more than a year ago, so I end up resorting to Google to find it.
The restriction doesn't make much sense either when comparing to, say, the search for blog entries, the number of which is rapidly approaching the same order of magnitude as that of forum entries.

One does not have to become a member to subscribe to blogs on TP, so the subscriber might not be a member at all. Even if they are a member, you still might not be able to get any result from the search tool if they have an incomplete or empty profile.

Yeah, like Hien said, email subscribers don't necessarily need to be members.

The search is however often quite out-of-date (it's getting haphazard how often it is updated, quite a tedious process unfortunately). I've just run an update though, so it will at least be fresh right now :)

Good point Sander, was just thinking that myself the other day while trying to find an old thread. Will need to spend some time fixing the search up and I'll try to get that fix in when that happens (no guarantees on when though ). The main reason for not including them was to avoid people responding to severely out of date threads. But we have a pretty clear message showing now if people try to do that, which I feel works relatively well.

Okay that's the answer I needed so thanks. I thought they has to be members too. It must have been the comments I way thinking of.

Answers the question though, :)

Thanks
