Hey, I am a canadian traveler and I know that getting into most countries wont really be much of an issue. I'm traveling experimentally so I really don't know my route, but how soon ahead of departure should I get my visa if I need one? And are there any countries you know of that for sure make you have a visa, or a return ticket to another country?
That's quite an open-ended question. It would be easier to look into if you had an idea of where you might be travelling to, as for some countries in the world you will probably need to be in your country of residence to apply for a visa. Sometimes you can get a visa at the border, other times it may take a bit of waiting after applying for one at an embassy, be that in a neighbouring country or your home country.
And are there any countries you know of that for sure make you have a visa, or a return ticket to another country?
Approximately 50% of the worlds countries would fit in this category especially in Africa and Central Asia, so without you being more specific nobody will be able to be of much help to you.
Alright, well to me more specific... then:
India, Thailand, Singapore, China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Egypt, Norway, Netherlands, Iceland, Sweden. There's others, but I don't think that they'll be an issue dealing with.
From my experience:
Pretty much all of Western Europe you don't need visas. Once you get into Eastern Europe it depends on the country.
Fiji, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand you don't need a visa
India and China both require visas before you arrive. These can be arranged at most embassies in other countries. If you are heading to Thailand beforehand, it's a great place to arrange them.
Australia and NZ I don't really know because I've gone to these countries on working visas. But from what I read about Australia, you get a paperless visa, called and ETA, through an online application and you are good to go. From what I read, NZ is visa free for Canadians.
For most of these countries you technically do need onward tickets. Sometimes they check, sometimes they don't. I've been checked in NZ, India and Fiji, but never in any of the other countries.
I know nothing about Korea or Egypt, but I bet you can find the answers within 20 seconds with a google search.
